Professional Mackintosh Probe for In-Situ Soil Testing

The Mackintosh Probe is a globally recognised, lightweight tool essential for sub-surface investigation and in-situ soil consistency testing. At TT Precision, we manufacture high-quality Mackintosh Probe kits designed for geotechnical engineers, surveyors, and site investigators who require a reliable, portable method for assessing soil bearing capacity. Primarily used in soft soils, peat, and clays, this probe allows for rapid data collection on soil strength and the depth of various strata, making it an indispensable asset for preliminary site surveys and foundation design.

Precision Engineered for Accuracy and Durability

Our Mackintosh Probe is engineered to deliver consistent, repeatable results in demanding field conditions. The test is performed by dropping a 4.5kg hammer from a fixed height of 300mm onto a series of interconnected 1.2m drive rods. By recording the number of “blows” required to drive the 25mm diameter cone into the ground, technicians can calculate the soil’s resistance and consistency. Every component—from the high-tensile steel rods to the specialized couplings—is manufactured to strict tolerances to ensure minimal energy loss during the drive process, providing you with the most accurate sub-surface data possible.

The Versatile Choice for Site Investigations

One of the primary benefits of the TT Precision Mackintosh Probe is its extreme portability. Unlike heavy drilling rigs, the entire kit can be hand-carried to remote or restricted-access locations, such as steep embankments or enclosed garden spaces. When paired with our Rod Lifting Tool, the extraction process becomes just as efficient as the installation. Whether you are conducting a small-scale domestic survey or a large-scale infrastructure assessment, our Mackintosh Probe kit provides a cost-effective, high-performance solution for understanding the ground beneath your feet.
