What is PCD re-pitching?

PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) is the diameter of the imaginary circle passing through the centre of each wheel bolt hole, combined with the number of bolts — for example, 5×112 or 5×114.3. Re-pitching is the process of machining a wheel so its existing bolt holes are moved to a new pitch circle, allowing a wheel designed for one vehicle to be safely fitted to another.

  1. Assessment & Measurement — We inspect the wheel and confirm the current PCD, bolt count, and material condition, then confirm the target PCD required for your vehicle.
  2. CNC Programming — Using calibrated CNC equipment, we programme the exact new bolt hole positions to precise engineering tolerances.
  3. Precision Machining — The wheel is either re-drilled to the new pitch or, where the hole positions overlap, existing holes are plugged first and new ones machined in the correct location — a process we also carry out as a standalone wheel plugging service where needed.
  4. Quality Check — Every wheel is checked for accuracy, symmetry, and structural integrity before it’s signed off.

We assess each wheel individually and will advise if a wheel isn’t a good candidate for re-pitching.

Is PCD re-pitching safe? Yes, when carried out correctly. We use calibrated CNC machining to position new bolt holes precisely, and every wheel is checked for structural integrity before it’s returned. We won’t re-pitch a wheel if we believe it would compromise safety.

What’s the difference between PCD re-pitching and a PCD adapter? An adapter is a separate bolt-on component that sits between the wheel and hub, changing the effective PCD but adding weight and altering offset. Re-pitching machines the new bolt pattern directly into the wheel itself, so there’s no extra component and the offset isn’t affected.

Do you need to plug the old bolt holes? Only if the new bolt positions overlap with the originals. In that case, we plug the old holes first and then machine the new pattern into the correct position, all as part of the same job.
